Build It

Build It.

Business, website and WordPress operations, education and institutional knowledge, and workforce operations: the systems an organization runs on.

Planning work at a desk with models and a laptop
Structure before design. Design before tools.

The Frame

A Website Is a Set of Decisions

Start with the visitor’s question.

Every visitor arrives with a question: what do you do, is it for me, and what happens next. A website answers those three questions in order or it answers none of them. The Build It room starts there and works outward to the systems: WordPress and what extends it, the forms and calendars, the documents, the onboarding checklist, the course that outlives the lecture.

Good Creative Media builds on WordPress because it is open, widely supported and owned by the organization that runs it. The same platform serves an artist’s collection, a law office’s practice pages and a restaurant’s menu. The decisions differ; the method is the same.

Who this room is for: office managers, staff IT and systems people, HR and admin support, instructional designers and nonprofit directors.

A phone and a laptop open to an online store
The store, the practice page and the course share one method: the visitor’s question first.

Conversations in Preparation

9 Conversations Planned for This Room

Working titles and briefs for the conversations in preparation. The first five follow the launch plan for the room; the rest are conversations the studio has already outlined. Episodes are recorded in the order the material is ready, and each one becomes a page on this site when it is published.

CONVERSATION 01 / IN PREPARATION

What a Website Is For

The three questions a visitor brings, the single next step each page should offer, and how to write a home page that answers in order. A walk through the pages of a working small business site.

For office managers and nonprofit directors

CONVERSATION 02 / IN PREPARATION

Onboarding That Holds

A new colleague’s first week as a workflow: accounts, the folder structure, the calendar, the handbook and the checklist that survives the person who wrote it.

For HR and admin support and office managers

CONVERSATION 03 / IN PREPARATION

Turn the Lecture Into a Course

From a recorded talk to a course people finish: chapters, the reading, the check for understanding, and where the institutional knowledge lives afterward.

For instructional designers and educators

CONVERSATION 04 / IN PREPARATION

The Form and What Happens After It

Inquiry forms, booking calendars, confirmations and the first reply. Where a website hands off to the business systems behind it.

For staff IT and office managers

CONVERSATION 05 / IN PREPARATION

The Nonprofit’s One Person Desk

The director who is also the bookkeeper, the webmaster and the volunteer coordinator. Which systems carry the load and which still ask for a person.

For nonprofit directors

CONVERSATION 06 / IN PREPARATION

WordPress Without the Overwhelm

Hosting, theme, plugins and the block editor explained by what each does for you. The three decisions that matter at the start and the ones that can wait.

For anyone starting or rebuilding a site

CONVERSATION 07 / IN PREPARATION

Clear Pages for a Law Office

What a potential client needs to read before calling, how to describe a practice plainly in the third person, and why every claim on the site should be one you can document.

For attorneys and law office administrators

CONVERSATION 08 / IN PREPARATION

Intake That Loses No One

The inbox, the form and the record: how an inquiry becomes a logged request with an owner and a next date, whatever door it came through, with calendars and follow up that agree.

For intake specialists and office managers

CONVERSATION 09 / IN PREPARATION

When to Automate and When to Hire

Pricing a system against a person. Which repeated tasks deserve a workflow and which deserve a colleague, and how to choose a toolkit small enough to learn.

For owners and office managers

Questions These Conversations Answer

What a Listener Can Take Back to Work

  • Which pages does a small organization actually need, and in what order should a visitor meet them?
  • What belongs in WordPress itself and what belongs in a plugin or a separate service?
  • What does a new colleague need on day one, and where does it live?
  • How does a recorded talk become a course people finish?
  • What should a one person office automate first?
